For the Commonwealth highlights the important work our prosecutors are doing to help secure justice in specific cases brought by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.

Assistant District Attorney Angela Brennan of our Major Trials Unit helped secure justice in a case involving a defendant accused of assaulting a woman who is a complainant against him in another case. The defendant threatened and then attacked the woman and her two small children while they were in the complainant’s car by throwing bricks at the vehicle. Using video of the attack in addition to testimony from the complainant and two Philadelphia Police officers, ADA Brennan secured a guilty verdict before the Hon. Kai Scott and will be sentenced in November.

Assistant District Attorney Matthew Delbridge of our Major Trials Unit helped secure justice in a case involving a defendant, driving under the influence, who struck a 15-year-old boy riding a bicycle. The defendant stopped briefly after the incident, but then fled the scene. The boy suffered a very serious degloving injury to his lower right leg. The defendant plead guilty to Aggravated Assault While DUI and Accidents Involving Death or Personal Injury and will be sentenced by the Hon. Anthony Kyriakakis in December.

Assistant District Attorney Caroline Jamieson of our Major Trials Unit helped secure justice in a case involving a defendant found guilty by the Hon. Mia Roberts-Perez of robbing and stabbing a man in his car in the city’s Wharton section, while the defendant was impersonating a police officer. The defendant also threatened another person present with the victim, who was later transported to the hospital for emergency surgery. The defendant is scheduled for sentencing in December.

Assistant District Attorney Maggie McDermott of our Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit helped secure justice in a case involving a defendant found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and her 12-year-old child, violating a Protection from Abuse Order, and related offenses. The defendant is scheduled for sentencing next month by the Hon. Mia Roberts-Perez.

Assistant District Attorney John Paul Bezerra of our Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit helped secure justice in a case involving an ex-step-grandfather found guilty of sexually assaulting his former step-grandaughter. The defendant is scheduled for sentencing in November by the Hon. Kai Scott.

Assistant District Attorney Madelyn Koppany of our Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit helped secure justice in a case involving a defendant found guilty of robbery, assault, and related offenses after a waiver trial before the Hon. Robert Coleman. The defendant was accused of punching a woman in the back of her head, causing her to lose consciousness, as well as robbing her of jewelry given to her by her parents decades prior. The defendant is scheduled for sentencing in October.

Assistant District Attorney Brooke Swann of our Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit helped secure justice in a case involving a defendant, who was previously convicted of Homicide, found guilty of strangling his then-partner (the incident took place in June of 2020). The defendant is scheduled for sentencing next month by the Hon. Robert Coleman.
